French is a minority language within the United States. Just over 2 million Americans over the age of five speak this language at home. This means that French has become the fourth most widely spoken language in this country, behind English, Spanish and of course Chinese.
even so, different varieties have evolved to the present day and of course, it is worth noting, they are the following:
- French from Louisiana: it was spoken by people who were descendants of the colonists in the French Louisiana region.
- French in New England: it is spoken by the descendants of all kinds of Canadian immigrants from the 19th and 20th centuries.
- Missouri French: spoken by descendants of French colonists within Illinois.
- The French of the muskrat: it is spoken in Michigan by the descendants of different travellers, inhabitants. He also speaks in North Dakota for the Métis.
